Obama’s Grandmother: More Tragedy Than We Have Room For

While Holly already linked a breaking news update on this, CNN is confirming that Sen. Barack ObamaGrandmother.jpgObama’s grandmother has died less then 30 hours before the grandson she raised may potentially be voted in as the first African-American President of the United States. As I previously stated, this is simply too much to take in all at once. No matter how you feel about each of the candidates or who you support, this is one aspect of the story which I did not want to see come to pass. She raised her grandson, a child of an absent father from less than favorable origins, who then went on to rise to the heights of political prominence and reached for the highest brass ring in the world. To come so close and not live to see the end of the story, no matter how it plays out, is sad beyond words.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Obama family and their friends. I’m very sorry this came to pass.

She'll be watching from haven. It is a emotional roller-coaster this month, my best friend's wife died suddenly, my mom was ill with pneumonia, but even so I can only imagine how emotionally overloaded Senator Obama and his family feel right now.

Yes, her passing is very sad and my thoughts are with Obama and his family.

My deepest sympathy and respect to you and your family at this time. She will always watch over you! God Bless You!

Amen. God Bless the family... Jazz, at least your respectful about it. More than I can say for idiots like Gateway pundit. Grrrrr...

I'm also having 11'th hour second thoughts about Bob Barr. For one, he's a phony and doesn't have a prayer and this damn Republican Party needs to be punished... HARD!

Jazz, I forgot to mention... the title of your post, "Obama's Grandmother: More Tragedy Than We Have Room For" is spot on and conveys the right emotional mood.

It is a tragedy in its truest meaning. I can barely comprehend how the Obama family must be feeling now.

it's very sad, true - but it's no tragedy.

she obviously did her best raising him; and as far as i can see, he is one of the most successful men on the planet, black or white, win or lose.

that's nothing less than a victory, whether she lived to see it or not.

How profoundly tragic. Somehow this must make sense in God's grand scheme of things, but at this moment in time this mortal can't see it.

Earlier today I stopped in at Democratic Underground and came across a clip including Paul Simon's "American Tune". I thought for a moment about what a great song that is. But it takes on added poignance now. Allow me to share the last verse:

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hours
    and sing an American tune
Oh, and it's alright, it's all right, it's all right
    You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

God rest your soul Ms. Dunham. My sympathies and prayers go out to your family.

The candidates for President of the United States of America have been under a fair amount of media scrutiny lately, and it has come to the nation’s attention that Barack Obama’s grandmother Madelyn Dunham passed away Sunday, November 2nd, two days before the election. His name for her was “Toot,” short for “tutu,” a Hawaiian term for grandmother. A death in the family is not an easy thing to ever take, and usually happens at the most inconvenient time. The costs usually involved can be considerable, when you have travel and funeral expenses to cover, and during times like those, who wants to have to worry about anything else? If you have an emergency you need to attend to, and you don’t want to get stretched beyond your limit, installment loans can be the friend in your time of need.
