Republican Group Plays Reverend Wright Card

Apparently on national TV — on NBC’s Sunday Night Football. Prediction: it may take the GOP more than one election cycle to win back some of the independent voters who detest this kind of politics and want to see it purged from campaigns that need to focus on issues.

Apparently, they're betting that a clergyman close to Sen. Obama who flamboyantly pronounces “God d–m America” is an issue. It's not surprising that this was saved for the final weekend, for maximum effect. It remains to be seen whether it will work this year, where negative campaigning has been largely ineffective.

I saw it earlier this week here in Texas. I didn't know they went national. It really does represent the worst in American politics. Even if you feel, as I do, that Obama's long-standing association with the Rev. Wright is deeper than he tries to pretend now, this commercial is just fear-mongering, nothing else.
