The Dems did this in the 1990s with their "Third Way" Potemkin Village gimmickry. Been there, done that, already.

Great messaging. For too long progressives have let conservatives own the terms of the debate. Nobody's for "bigger government", and government isn't the solution to all problems, but we all realize there are things private individuals and private industry just can't do, or do well. We have government keep criminals off our streets; shouldn't it also keep companies from polluting our rivers and air? With millions of uninsured, shouldn't government help everyone have access to health care? Nobody's looking for an equal outcome, but we do believe, if this country is to live up to its promise, that we all need equal opportunities, so that if you work hard enough and have the talent to succeed, you don't have to drop out of high school to get a job to support your sick parent.
