Election Prediction (2008)

I can’t take the horse-race nature of the presidential election reporting much longer. Who’s ahead now? We hear of poll after poll, polling averages and polls of “likely” voters. (Does an “unlikely” voter count? And who decides who is “likely”?)  We are expected to pay attention to this as it crowds out more substantial reporting.

Here in the final stretch – oh! – the race is narrowing yet again. Those teasing pollsters and their big media allies are trying to keep our attention a day longer.  Shall we skip voting on November 4th and give the office to the last poll winner?

This obsessive polling and poll reporting is the inspiration for this week’s cartoon.

Haha, my take is sort of like NordicAngst's: 1) yes, there is more important news in the world than the horserace, but 2) actually polling does have a scientific basis.
