Fear of the Democrats is legitimate. But the public is a) disaffected with the GOP; b) in many cases suffering economically and wanting change of any kind, as long as it offers them what seem to be better prospects. I believe many of these people should know better, but they don't, no more than it was impossible to tell people some years ago that "'growth forever" in the stock market or in housing prices wouldn't last forever.

A separate issue may be that there really is a serious revival of the Left in this country.

"Equal time" or "fairness" on talk radio (the exception to a heavily liberal media) is garbage. It's nothing but PC brownshirt suppression, and there's no need for it if the Left is finally beginning to see its positions and arguments accepted and approved by the public, which would be indicated if the current blippy spike in leftist talk radio blossoms into something larger. (Not that this would move the PC brownshirts to abandon their suppression, though.)

You should also mention another round of campaign finance reform. When you look at the radio personalities that were sued over talking about an initiatives on the ballot in Washington State in 2006, campaign finance laws could be altered to eliminate conservative discussions.

Also, the idea of expanding the voting rights act so that the Democratic controlled Justice Department has to approve all political boundries could be used to keep minorities isolated in districts where no Republican would never run and to limit the number of very Republican districts.

You could also mention revisiting hate crimes laws to increase the ability of the government to play mind reader.
