I don't usually watch Hardball but I did see that show and there was no “trap”. She was very logical in explaining view.

Sadly for Bachmann, the Republicans, Minnesota and the rest of the world, this is not the first instance of idiotic comments made by Rep. Bachmann. Actually it isn't even the worst. She's got quite a history of this type of nonsense:

Yeah, the reason this is such a big deal is that Bachmann stated the logical conclusion of much of the Republican rhetoric, including from the McCain campaign itself. Of course, we already have the Coulters of the "conservative" world calling liberalism Treason. But she's just a bomb throwing commentator. However, Palin has been saying outright that only certain Americans are pro-America, which clearly means half of us are Anti-American. Pfotenhauer believes there's a real and fake Virginia, based entirely on the more liberal beliefs in certain areas. Palin, again, says that Obama questions America so much that he pals around with terrorists. And the Ayers thing is entirely about indicating that Obama really hates America. That's its whole point.

So where does such thinking lead?

It actually leads most honestly to Bachmann calling for the investigation of people for being un-American. I mean, if you really think all of these things above, that's what you should be doing. Bachmann's mistake is just saying what all of the attacks mean when there wasn't enough popular support for the actions yet.

Which all brings me back to McCain. I don't think he really believes Obama is un-American or buddies with terrorists. But he's willing to keep saying there are questions in order to get elected.

So the questions were unfair and a trap because they revealed what she really thinks? Then we could use a few more unfair trap questions in our election process I'd say!

I donated $50 to Tinklenberg after this flap. We can't have our elected officials calling for a partisan witch hunt on members of the other party.

What's more, she set up a talking point that Obama's been hitting out of the park lately: “There are no real and fake parts of America. We all love this country.” That's how a real patriot talks.

Yes you're right about the whole thing. I watched video of the whole thing and if there was any trap it was more like one of the ones that Wile E. Coyote built and then fell into himself. And so I sent $50 to Tinklenberg and might wind up sending more. So far this year I've donated more than I ever have before, contributing to Obama for President, Nixon for Governor (Missouri) and a couple of others. But you missed out on some things, Jazz.

Joey from Friends could have seen it coming.
Cosmo Kramer would have caught on.
Ted Baxter would have known better.

I'm certain others could think of other distinguished intellectuals to add to that rollcall.
