Obama represents a philosophy opposed to everything that Goldwater and real Republicans stand for. Goldwater believed in individualism, small frugal government, free enterprise, limited government, and the right of people to run their own lives. Obama is steeped in a statist philosophy that began to emerge in various forms in the 1880s - the concept of the masses, of an overarching and all-powerful state that can take everything you have and dole it out for whatever purpose the state determines is necessary ("spread the wealth"), all business under the control of government, a government that makes the decisions in your life for your own good - what you should eat or smoke, how you should run your business, how your children should be educated, how state values should supplant the values of religion or your philosophy. He is a Euro-socialist. McClelland's endorsement is meaningless. He is a lightweight, bitter at the Republicans because he was a failure. Goldwater's grand-daughter sounds well-intentioned but ignorant of the history and political philosophy her grandfather espoused. Since LBJ Americans have always rejected clearcut liberals - McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry. The only Democrats elected, Clinton and Carter ran as centrists - and when Carter's leftist outlook became evident he was not re-elected. The current situation is worrisome. A combination of the entire national Press as the Obama election machine, 3X the money McCain has (hoisted on his own petard of campaign finance reform), an unpopular president who rejected key aspects of true Republican values (the "classical liberalism" of Adam Smith and the Founding Fathers), and the inarticulateness of McCain. Obama has successfully disguised his record (voting present, creating no legislation) but has a 100% left voting record. The triumverate of Obama, Pelosi and Reid will subvert the nation through extreme left Supreme Court picks without any possibility of filibuster, will nationalize 15% of the economy by taking control of the health care system making all healthcare professionals as dependent on government as postal workers, will lock in control of the Senate by making DC a state, will suppress dissent using the mis-named "Fairness Doctrine" to shut down talk radio and Fox. Their plan is to try to build a majority support by bribing >50% of the population using loot expropriated from a smaller percent of the country. The top 5% is too small for their purpose. They will start there but the numbers mandate enlarging it - first to the upper middle class, then the comfortable middle class then the middle class.

This situation was forseen by Sir Alex Fraser Tyler (1747-1813) two centuries ago:

A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

I don't know if McClellan's endorsement will matter -- he's no Colin Powell.
http://www.entertonement.com/clips/35453/I-will...

The problem with the ideas of Barry Goldwater, Jr. on working from within the party and voting for their candidates no matter what is that the two don't mesh. If you do the latter then you are only maintaining the power of the kind of Republicans that CC is criticizing. You are rewarding them for their actions. This will never bring about change. Ever. Look at how long the effort has been being made and failing miserably.

Every day Obama gets more and more endorsements. Such a strange election, a real feeling of surreality is in the air. The most surprising thing in here was that D.L. Hughley has his own show on CNN. Didn't know that! I need to check that out.
