DLS-

Dave A is right- McCain HAS conducted a negative dirty campaign this time around. A lot of people (including yours truly) admired him in 2000 for the way he conducted himself and his campaign. That admiration is long gone.

He's not picking up steam because his message is not conducive to hope- it seems to be based on trying to blow up petty little flaws that his operational research folks have found on Obama. Trying to make Obama look like a radical who socialized with terrorists and who just might be a closet Muslim is pure Rove.

Obama has stretched the truth- but he drew the line at personal attacks and at attacking family members. In the debates he had perfect manners--- often pointing out where he agreed with his opponent.

Well, comming from the independent side of the fence, just maybe those other folks are right? And, you are the one in tin foil hat land DLS? Its worth a thought...

Surely from my view, it is the McCain camp that has been champ of the lowbrow and base emotions this cycle. I won't say that Obama's campaign has not played fast and lose with the truth at times, because they have. But really, it is still a fairly clear which party has spent most of their time fear/hate mongering this time out.

Personally, the sooner the Rovian/fundies get booted from control of the GOP, the better it will be for the country IMHO. I would love to see some Golwater style reps I could vote for, but alas it is not to be for the most part. I had such hopes for mcCain having signed his petition in Ohio back in 2000, but he seems unable or unwilling to bring back the moderate and stable guy I thought existed.

"Well, we have to distinguish between two things. First is the typical Republican failed strategy of trying to take the high road and ignoring all the abuse and worse that comes the GOP's way from the Democrats, the Fifth Columnnists, and others on the Left that is routine. (Earth to GOP and conservatives: Appeasement doesn't work, and even encourages _more_ misconduct. You're on a tilted playing field going against cheaters. Will you ever learn?) McCain has often taken the high road."

Ha, ha- very funny DLS

"Second is underhandedness, letting surrogates do the dirty work and take the blame if there's a backlash or if attacks are ineffective. We've seen that from McCain, Obama, Clinton, and others in the past. Even the GOP does it sometimes."

oh gosh...even the G.O.P??? I'm shocked...SHOCKED I say!
Ask Michelle Bachman how her week has been going.

"sick grandma"

All that's needed now is to hear vicious remarks about her at a McCain-Palin rally.

"Nail in the Coffin" (if Powell didn't already hammer it in, hard)

That McCain might consider doing it now only shows either another example of "too little, too late" an attempt at defense, or just plain desperation (the explanation, the latter, that I favor).

David Brody of CBN finally hit on the truth about why they won't go with Wright: the rallies. If Wright's name gets mentioned there will be people at the rallies yelling racial epithets. The Ku Klux Klan could literally show up. It would be out of their control immediately and they would look desperate.
