Type your comment here. The scary part of mass fundraising over the internet, is where do those funds come from? US citizens or from foreigners trying to buy our leaders? Campaign funds should ONLY come from US citizens... the only way to insure this is some version of public funding.

With the U.S. becoming a one party state, does fund raising reform really matter. Most offices will be competed once a generation when the sitting office holder either retires or is elected to higher office.

Also, since in the future, the only relevant elections will be the Democratic primaries, what effect does massive fund raising matter?

It all depends upon how often Obama's fund-raising can be repeated. After all, McCain's got the same technologies available to him that Obama does (and so does everyone else in the nation), but he's raising no where near the same amount of money, and not just because he's limited to a certain amount. If all major candidates in the future can raise Obama money, then, yes, this version of public funding is dead. However, it's not clear that just anyone can.
