Thank You, General Powell, For a Belated Yet Resounding Verdict

Thank you, General Powell, for finally rendering a decisive vote on the Bush-McCain administration.

Back on June 28, 2007, I wrote the following short Letter to the Editor in Time Magazine:

Colin Powell said he “would close Guantánamo not tomorrow but this afternoon.” How about four or five years ago, Mr. Powell, when you should have stood against the prison and the Iraq war prevarication?

Today, I thank the General for giving his powerful and persuasive support to Barack Obama, but most of all for endorsing the ideals, proposed policies, and character of Senator Obama.

In doing so, General Powell has rendered his final and irrevocable repudiation of the Bush-McCain disastrous policies of the past eight years.

He has also irreversibly broken with the Republican Party, a Party which will now politely but soundly reject and condemn the previous Republican icon’s judgment and beliefs.

"Bush-McCain" administration? This little piece conveniently omits the fact that Colin Powell and John McCain shared the same view, i.e. that you must commit adequate forces to a conflict, in order to win. In essence, when Sen. McCain wrote his now famous letter to President Bush, urging a surge of forces, it was an endorsement of a strategy that has much in common with the Powell doctrine, hammered out in the first Gulf War.

They have not shared the same views once McCain went for garbage politics. The Republican party has become infested with right-wing nuts and Christian conservatives-zealots who are trying to change this country into a fascist state by trampling on the constitution and forcing Christianity on government run agencies. Enough is enough, we want our country back. Thanks to Powell, maybe more Republicans will stand up to the Jerry Farwell alumni looney's like Hannity and O'Reilly on the media tabloid front and Michelle Bachmann and others like her who have takeover Lincoln's Party and destroyed it.

Let them eat Yellowcake. Watch as the wingnuts dig into Powell for his UN speech, which they themselves jumped off the bar stools in jubilation for. Just wait.

Maybe they can portray Powell as a communist since he engages in community activism with black kids:-)

Manchester2: You conveniently omit the fact that as McCain himself has said, he "voted with Bush 90 percent of the time." I believe that would qualify him to share the "honor" of a "Bush-McCain administration."
