Civil action is one thing. Civil disobedience is another. Civil action only requires that you wish to force whatever issue into prominence by whatever legal means possible. I can't think of a scenario where that's not a positive thing. Civil disobedience, on the other hand, assumes that you feel you are so right, and the majority so wrong, that an immediate and illegal response is required. That's not an impossible scenario, but the bar set on it is much higher — appropriately so, IMO. And when you pursue such a scenario you have to be pretty sure the positive effect is going to be greater than the inevitable blowback. If it isn't you'll do yourself a disservice to the cause you intend to promote.
Gore's environmental extremiism is likely contrived in order to secure celebrity status as well as to assure large book sales to stupid people. Going even farther reeks of the Smelly Socialist punks at G-8 demonstrations and of vermin who set fire to housing developments and motor vehicles in dealers' lots. It's probably another scummy sales and celebrity-status tactic, “pushing the envelope” more.
How very like Pajamas Media to compare a call to civil disobedience to Yasser Arafat.
