Jazz, I agree with your assessment of Obama as better on foreign policy and McCain as better on domestic policy. I've told friends that McCain will kill us in wars and by continuing policies that have the rest of the world hating us, while Obama will kill us in waiting lines for government-run health care. Barr is a good choice.

Mr. Barr did not, I must point out, choose Wayne Allyn Root to be his VP running mate -- the Libertarian Party convention delegates did that. But what's wrong with Mr. Root? I heard him speak, both in person and on the C-SPAN coverage of the LP NatCon, and thought he was a great advocate and proselytizer for libertarian positions. He's just too much a newcomer for LP regulars to have chosen him as the Presidential candidate this first time around.

Well, Rudi, I think your point almost goes without saying, but I see the strengthening of third party prominence as only a side effect of supporting the candidate. I would not vote for a third party candidate I found inferior to the others simply to support the party. I would find that as repulsive as the idea voting for McCain just because I was a Republican or Obama were I a Democrat. I really do find his positions on fiscal and foreign policy superior and my reservations about Obama and McCain are great enough that I'd rather vote with Bob.

Jazz, could another reason your voting for Barr is hope that a decent Barr showing will add to a stronger national showing as a viable third party. The Libertarian Party website list the growing number of local politicians.

With an Obama win and Dem super majority, the Dems will have a chance to "fix things" in Washington. If they don't the latest incarnation of the Republicans are even worse, they aren't the "Contract for America" party anymore. This Liberal is willing to give the Dems one last chance, if they fail the Libertarians is my hope for the future.
