The Republican party has lost its bearings. The momentum of fanaticism and ambition have swept away the devotion to fiscal moderation and efficient government: Anybody remember Goldwater. Rhetoric has replaced results. McCain of 2000 has been replaced by McCain of 2008. Republicans used to know that the key to victory was not appealing to the fringes, as they accuse the democrats of doing, but appealing to the middle: Republicans and Democrats, middle class and moderate. At some point the rhetoric becomes the reality.

Yes, I blame McCain. This was his call. No pun intended. The ends does not justify the means. Who needs a candidate who can only win by claiming his opponent is a terrorist buddy?

I don't blame McCain… he knows what works.

The real issue is that it worked in the past but times have changed and it will be interesting to see if it works this time. McCain clearly is already breaking his campaign promises….

The campaign he ran in 2000 failed, and failed spectacularly. Why would he run it again? Remember, one definition of insanity so doing the exact same thing and expecting different results.

He is likely holding his nose as well, but politics, especially Presidential politics, is no place for pussies.

How do these robocalls even work?

Are they supposed to frighten Republicans into voting for McCain no matter how much they dislike him?

Or are they supposed to scare Democrats into not voting at all?

Do they even work at all?

I actually registered GOP to vote for McCain 2000. It seems like a million different McCains ago.
