No matter how badly Obama performs he will get the same level of supports from blacks, Hispanics, and coastal elite whites. There is just not enough swing voters these days to believe that the Republicans can comeup with a candidate that can win most of them. Remember, for the Republicans to remain competative, the Republican candidate has to win a higher percentage of the white vote in each presidential election cycle.

SD- What makes you think Obama will be reelected? I'm predicting that if elected he will spend his entire term trying to undo the damage of the Bush years. Since we're broke there will be a slew of campaign promises that he will be forced to break or put on hold, and the GOP and Fox will be out there reminding voters daily about how he sounded great but didn't keep his word.

In '85, I bought a Plymouth Horizon. What a lemon! Funny thing is, it looked great on the outside. I now have a Ford Escort, not much to look at, nothing really appealing to the eye, not much charisma there, but it's dependable and gets my family where we need to go.

The Plymouth Horizon is Obama; the Ford Escort is McCain.

Does anyone really believe that the election cycle in 2012 will be relevant at all given the almost certainity that Obama will be reelected or that the general election in 2016 will be relevant since by that time that Republican Party will be so insignigicant that the only relevant elections will be from the Iowa Caucuses to the SuperTuesday primaries.

Personally I was again disappointed that neither one really answered any questions. I’m tired of people trying to make the problems we face a partisan blame game. As I’ve discussed before the mess (or messes) we are in are the result of a bipartisan effort over the last 20 years. Trying to paint one side as responsible for all the problems (or worse yet eager to have them) is not helpful.

That's true up to a point, but Bush and the Republican Congress he had for the majority of his time in office were DISASTERS on an unprecedented scale. We've seen our economy crumble, our army crippled in an unnecessary war and our rights sacrificed on the altar of protecting us from terrorism.

Patrick, did you really refer to Obama's smile as a “smirk”? This is a word that describes insolence, smugness, contempt even… think of GWB if you want to visualize smirk, it used to be one of his trademarks. We haven't seen it for quite some time now though… What you saw on Obama's face was a tolerant smile likely derived from amusement and perhaps even disappointment… but it was definitely was not a smirk.
