The Quick and the Dead
I had the debate on, but wasn’t watching closely — in fact, I was playing solitaire while listening with an ear to it. The bottom line is that Obama is like a Winky Wright — you simply can’t hurt him. He’s too good defensively. A fellow chessmaster might be able to out-box him, but McCain is no debate whiz. McCain needed a knockout, and he wasn’t going to get it. And in striving for it, he sounded far more conservative and doctrinaire than he has at any point in the last few weeks. His derision at protecting the “health of the mother” in abortion — though undoubtedly thrilling to the conservative base — is going to kill him with independent women.

I would go so far as to say McCain's derision was almost palpable. Watching him it soon became clear that with every opportunity he had to speak he was going to take a shot at Obama. This was his last chance to show some class, but all he did was make me uncomfortable. And speaking of class, how about his accusation that Obama was somehow advocating class warfare? How ironic..

Haha CStanley! We will have quite a crisis on our hands if the dead rise from their graves and cast votes in 3 weeks — I mean everyone knows zombies all vote the same way!!!
I totally agree with David and JSpencer here on all points. And I 100% agree that for women voters, that “health of the mother” line did not play well. In fact, I'd be out in the streets protesting if McCain had his way on this issue.
There are real women out there who would be dead if late-term abortions were banned with no exceptions. McCain will never have to worry about it but as a woman of child-bearing age I don't really need a politician finger-air-quoting about life or death consequences to an idea the conservative right has invented and run wild with.
There's nothing certain in this election except death and taxes — I can accept being disappointed over taxes but not so much the other thing.
