The End of the Road for the “Straight Talk Express”

Tonight, John McCain has promised the Republican base that he is going to “kick his (Barack Obama) you know what.” Senator McCain, with all due respect, this is what Obama has been waiting for and your demeanor will prove to be the nails in your coffin.

There is new information on the recent ties of John McCain and the Republican Party to Walter and Leonora Annenberg (who have funded Ayers and given money to Republican candidates including McCain) as well as McCain being on record as supporting ACORN. Even the Reverend Wright issue is problematic, given McCain’s ties to Pastor Hagee and Palin’s controversial religious connections.

McCain’s best hope for any traction from tonight’s debate is to show a clear difference between himself and Obama on the economy. Tell us why government intervention is not a good idea in the long term. Share the fiscally conservative position that smaller government (less taxes and less spending) is better for all Americans, instead of out socializing Obama by offering more spending programs and government bailouts.

Unfortunately, I think the die is cast. McCain will attack and fail miserably. Obama will parry the attack while looking presidential. The Straight Talk Express will lose its last tire and whimper to Election Day… far from the finish line.

Call me a dreamer but I keep waiting for McCain to really talk about the issues and offer up a serious plan, not one that he has just started thinking about that changes everytime he talks to a different advisor or different supporter.

    He has a plan, Stockboy.

He's going to provide healthcare credits, expand the battle in Afghanistan, balance the budget by 2012, provide jobs for the workers in Michigan, , negotiate new fixed- rate mortgages for homeowners with the taxpayers eating the difference, make us energy independent, cut all earmarks out of the budget, and the beauty of it all is that he won't have to raise anyone's taxes to do it!

    Sarah Palin said so. :-)

I'd describe it as the Energizer Bunny about to finally run out of "juice."

He has a plan, Stockster. These days it's Obama Lite. He is using (not hiring) Obama as his unwitting consultant. He waits for Obama to present a plan and then responds with a watered-down ... response. (cacophony intentional)

At one point he began to do one or two good things, but that lasted about as long as broad interest in Palin. The interest was there for a while, but has subsided now.
