I think Powell will publically support Obama. For starters Powell knows the value of diplomacy. Also I doubt that Powell would support McCain who has no plan in Iraq other than "to win". That's not a plan, that's a goal.

If that happens Barack and Michelle can get the tape measure out for the drapes, LOL.

But there's always the "Bradley effect"

It would be quite a shakeup, but somehow my gut feeling tells me Colin Powell will stay out of this one. I have no doubt he may wind up voting for Obama, and I certainly hope he would consider working in an Obama cabinet (and hope Obama would have him on his short list for sec'y of state or defense) but for some reason I just don't see him knowingly sticking it to McCain and the GOP base like that.

The only way the debate tonight would become a "game changer" is if Obama shows up drunk. McCain no longer controls his destiny.

It needs to come after the debates -- either on Friday around noon or sometime next week would probably be good.

Agreed, it would be the ultimate irony if McCain's appeal ended up being mainly the GOP partisan base. Of course the danger for McCain in going on the attack tonight is that so many voters want a president who shows he has broad appeal, which is the opposite of the polarizing tactics the GOP base wants McCain to engage in. As for Colin Powell, he still enjoys enough respect from voters (independent of party) that his endorsement is desired by both candidates.
