Uh- Holly its a little late to fire his staff and start over. In a way this campaign has reminded me of the Bush admin-- and not in the way that the Democrats are claiming. His staff seems badly divided on how to get his message across and even what the message is.

People coming out of the present administration gripe about the divisions within the executive branch with rival groups jockeying for power within it and within the various agencies.

Blog of the Nation: End Game Changer

Recent polls have not been good to Senator John McCain. Here's a modest proposal, made by conservative columnist Bill Kristol in the New York Times. Fire the campaign. That's right -- he thinks the McCain campaign has gotten off track, and it's time to try something radical. We'll get Kristol's take on what went wrong, and how to make it right.

Barrie Hardymon

Tags: Bill Kristol | McCain campaign

1:58 PM ET | 10-13-2008 | permalink

http://www.npr.org/blogs/talk/2008/10/end_game_...

kritt11: "....if the campaign is a microcosm of how he'd run his presidency- maybe the country is dodging a bullet."

Grrrr..... (and double grrrrr....). I read Kristol's column and waited for this post to come out so I could say that..... You beat me to it.... :)

But seriously, McCain did his best when we was so far behind he was letting campaign staff go left and right. When he had a small bare bones organization (the size of his senate staff. perhaps?) is when he started doing well.... And now that he has a larger organization he can't manage it. I say let him run what he does best- his senate staff. He's too dangerous to run anything larger.

As I've said before I mostly admire McCain. It is sad to see his ambition take over his judgment and common sense. He wanted to win so badly that he sacrificed what even those who don't always agree with him see as his strengths-- his character, courage and integrity. How sad if he loses both the election and his straight shooter reputation. He might have been able to pull it off if he hadn't caved to the right wingers.

Also, I'm wondering how long it will be before the GOP nominates another female, if they lose.
