The answer to the question is, "No, and those who imagine it should grow up." The panic and hype and sensationalism we're seeing right now is simply ridiculous. It was sufficient to bring to people's attention as I have done for a long time (not only on this site) the problems we're asking for with the bubbles (stocks, then real estate) and when they burst, and that the deflation nobody believed could happen in Japan that happened, can happen here impossibly, too. (Why do you think concern among central banks and governments is not limited to just the financial industry?)

We have yet to see the end of the credit-card abuse by so much of the public and the results when people can no longer keep living beyond their means on their credit cards (with purchases for items far from essential to day-to-day living).

It has been Obama that has been the _principal_ contender appealing to emotions, which he has done from the start. It's not just that this is a liberal phenomenon so much of the time (much rarely so for conservatism), but it's particularly true for this year and Obama as the "American Idol" candidate. You want to feel good, go with Sammy and Dean-o [grinning at camera, on cue].

At least Obama is trying to stick to the issues-- while McCain seems mired in character attacks. I can imagine that the prospect of losing the presidency twice must be driving him to desperation--because that is what he seems -- desperate.

Someone mentioned in another thread that McCain has a working relationship with ex-Watergate felon Gordon Liddy-- yet you don't see Obama and Biden whipping up the crowds at their rallies with that tidbit!!!

Obama raises very real concerns while McCain goes back to Roves outdated playbook. I used to have respect for John McCain. Now he's just a coopted Roveclone.
