CBC = Congressional Black Caucus and are all black, all Democrats and all totally uninterested in bipartisanship. Do you really think that a group of politicians who openly support race based reparations would ever be interested in bipartisanship.

I find it humor ous how so many white progressives pretend that the black and Hispanic sections of the Democratic party do not really exist.

the CBC has never been interested in Bipartisanship.

That's not true, the Canadian Broadcasting Company is always objective and reports the facts accurately.

Blacks would rather vote for Marion Barry and Kwame Kilpatrick before they would vote for a Republican.

Might that have something to do with the fact that many republicans long for the days when a Negro knew his place and that his place was at the back of the bus?

You are familiar with the Southern Strategy

Don,

the CBC has never been interested in Bipartisanship. they would never go along with anything that a Republican proposed. Blacks would rather vote for Marion Barry and Kwame Kilpatrick before they would vote for a Republican.

So if the argument that all talk of biapartisanship should really only involve whites or are you really arguing that the CBC would support bipartisanship?

Excellent post, Dennis. Certainly there was the darker side to the civil rights era too, with the party's vying for the bigot vote (and I'll be the first to acknowledge that it was the GOP that ultimately took that tack.) But you are absolutely correct in pointing out that in today's highly partisan environment, civil rights legislation would have never been passed.

And I completely agree with 'mixing it up' (that's why I still hang around here, after all!) I wish everyone would stop putting their hands over their ears when they hear someone with a contrarian viewpoint; critical thinking and the development of sound policy requires a willingness to challenge our own views with opposing ones and find the strengths and weaknesses of each side.

the only relevant vote most people have these days is when they vote with their feet. If they are living in either Alabama or Maryalnd, there is little chance of affecting change at the ballot box. Since businessses now have to be very careful in picking their area based upon politics, they do the same thing.

Also, sorting is due to more people marrying within their economic, educational, and social class. Since race is an 80% plus indication of voting preference for everyone but whites, it also makes sense that there would be less bipartisanship.

The real question is what will the former Republicans do after the Republican party completes its collapse and the U.S. is left with one relevant poltical party? Also, what happens when the general elections become a moot exercise to rubber stamp what was decided in the Democratic Primary? Also, as the U.S. becomes a one party state what will happen when people can no longer vote with their feet.
