Let me try this paraphrasing your comments, mlhradio:

In a perfect world, we (the American voting populace) would not pay attention to these little impressions, and instead base decisions on issues and positions.

But this is not a perfect world. And all these little things *do* add up. They shouldn't count, but in reality the American voters do base decisions on that sort of fluff. For better *and* for worse.

Which is why the "THAT ONE" comment may end up being the most decisive event to come out of the debates so far. Screw the important stuff, screw the issues, screw the foreign affairs and economic policy and all that boring stuff. I'm willing to bet that more voters will base their decision on "THAT ONE" in the voting booth than anything else that was said at the debates.

Could you imagine the world reaction now if McCain/Palin actually won? The American rep might even go lower than it is now… if such a thing is possible. In any case, the behaviors described by Dorian are truly shameful, especially when we consider the lofty positions these two are vying for. I will be so glad when this is over.
