Also, Superdestroyer, if you are reading these threads currently: on the way back to Detroit from Lake Michigan today, I stopped in Ann Arbor to nose around the city's book stores and at a Borders, I saw on clearance a book that made me laugh. It was a book describing how the GOP was building and expanding its power and how it is poised to become “the New York Yankees of 21st century US politics.”

If I have to stick my neck out I say I would agree with Superdestroyer, that McCain seems ready to become the next Dole (sacrificial lamg against a Dem who isn't that strong, though stronger than a normally DOOMED Clinton in 1996, someone who had no respect among normal, decent people at that time, unlike Obama this year).

Ok, I don't know about the “shattered base” thing as they are all rallying around McCain now.

Hewitt lives in some kind of twisted dreamworld. If I wanted to live in a dreamworld it sure as hell wouldn't be one in which people never learned from their mistakes.

I've been listening to Hewitt for several years and sometimes read his blog at Townhall. Before the 2006 election, he was selling much the same line — all optimism and cheerleading. After the election, some of his readers and listeners were left feeling that he hadn't been realistic, that they had been cheated by his approach in a way.

I don't take Hewitt or most of the talker on the Salem network very seriously. They present themselves as intellectuals, but mostly they are cheerleaders, reality be damned.
