Israeli Peace Activist Lightly Wounded in Bombing
An Israeli peace activist was lightly wounded in an apparent assassination attempt that police believe was carried out by far-right Jewish terrorists. Police are raising protection for members of the group Peace Now after flyers at the scene offered a 1.1 million shekel bounty for anyone who killed a member of the organization. More background and information can be found here. Needless to say, these terrorists are repellent and need to be dealt with as the threat to Israeli society that they are.

Apparently they also have problems with ultra-Orthodox types forming “modesty squads” and beating up women who don't dress themselves properly. They're also intimidating people into refusing to accept women who don't cover themselves enough, on buses, at conferences and the like. Now, if you think back a little, you might remember a little group in a little-known country that had state sanctioned guys like these running around being S.O.B.s. Who am I referring to? Why, the Taliban, of course. It isn't that bad in Israel yet, but it doesn't hurt any less if the guys who beat you up have permission from the government to beat you up, or if they're just thugs wrapped in a cloak of piety.
