New York Hurricane ?

Over the past couple of weeks we have seen discussions of financial hurricanes striking New York but it now looks like there is an outside chance the city could see a real one, or at least a pretty substantial tropical storm.

Currently the threat is only a tropical wave which has brought some pretty substantial rain to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic but at least two forecasting models call for the storm to track up the East Coast for a hit on the Big Apple. There are mixed opinions as to how strong it will get (either Category One Hurricane or strong Tropical Storm) and of course other models show it petering-out or avoiding New York entirely.

New York is not immune to such storms and in fact it looks like if the storm does hit it could do so around the 70th anniversary of the infamous 1938 Long Island Express.

The odds are this will amount to nothing much but it is worth keeping half of an eye on as the week progresses.

Oh, if only… Unfortunately, the wrong people would get hurt. Otherwise, it would be kind of neat to see the crooked SOB's responsible for the financial mess swept out to sea on three hundered mile an hour winds.

But, as unfortunate as it is, they're the ones most likely to be evacuated first.

    such a shame.

They have their own private helicopters. (And very likely a secret tunnel under the river which nobody else can use.) The people who got washed away would be the ones who can't even afford bus fare.

For us in the USA, the easy money flooding of the market threatens a nation-wide storm.

Well, the storm of federal (taxpayer) funds is threatening Obama's big spending plans. But perhaps some of those plans can be saved by Obama early next year by increased taxes. (“Tax cuts? _What_ tax cuts? The circumstances have changed.”)

Looks like I'm not the only one thinking of Japan any more (at least, in the news).

    I can hear y'all now:

    “If I had a rock-et launch-er,

    If I had a rock-et launch-er,

    If I had a rock-et launcher, …”

    Floor yielded.

nice to see the wingnuts advocating the use of portable expendable incindiary devices on suits and ties ,that have been lying unused thanks to a bloated Pentagon budget.

Tax cuts are one thing. 600 dollar ashtrays and no bid contracts are another.

Maybe they'll get their own reality shows from Mark Burnett- “How to make your own Golden Parachute”.

I remember Hurricane Gloria and Hurricane David as a kid. Hurricanes are not unknown to NY at all.
