Biden will always make gaffes, because Biden will always be Biden. He can't help himself. But he is well-known and basically well-liked among most voters- even if he doesn't create the excitement of a Sarah Palin. These days that can be a good thing. Obama made a safe call, but a smart one-- because Biden reassures centrists that the country won't be run by the Daily Kos and its supporters.

Now you've got the spotlight on the right part of the stage.

I don't think you need to make the case that Palin isn't capable. Sadly, the fact that she is a woman will convince all too many in even the GOP ranks (many of those ironically women who've been brainwashed since birth that a woman cannot lead and fear McCain's age and health status) that she isn't the one. Also the fact that she's young and goofy...and unavailible.. just all spell a recipe that if you ignore her, she truly will not only go away, but begin to scare people.

Focusing on how hard-hitting, intelligent and worldly Joe Biden is will serve the dems well.

It was definitely a good choice by Obama, though Biden lately has been making more gaffes than anybody else. Telling a guy in a wheelchair to stand up and be recognized was only one of them.

Despite the dishonesty and hypocrisy directed at the GOP team, most of us see clearly: Biden addresses Obama's two main problems: lack of experience (he is less qualified than Palin; Obama is fourth, _last, among the two pairs of nominees in qualifications) and foreign policy worries (ignorance; temptation to revert to a poor Carter-style-or-worse foreign policy). Biden also constitutes "outreach" by Obama into the establishment side and Washington-fixture side (as opposed to "change" [sic]) that Obama needed to boost his credentials and vote totals this November. (Now if Obama can only overcome the community-organizer leftism-tainted liability, which includes work with notorious ACORN. He needs to publicly castigate and disavow that organization, for example, to earn more respect.)

Obama and Biden are Sammy and Dean-o. It's a natural fit. They really do need to go on one or more late-night network comedy shows (loved by Dem voters here in the USA) as well as Saturday Night Live and do some explicit comedy. (The serious talk can be reserved for morning television talk shows, also loved by Dem voters.)
