It's cynical "compassionate" [sic] "conservatism," K. It's not merely socialism bordering on communism (80 per cent federal ownership reviles any American). It's stealing Dem Party playbook pages and stealing an issue from Obama to try to appeal to swing voters who are desperate about the economy or otherwise don't have normal objections to actions such as this.

The Big Three in Detroit have to be salivating now. The moral hazard is clothed in bright neon, just beckoning them to remind the Bush administration and McCain about all those Michigan and Ohio electoral votes that are fully competitive today.

* * *

"conservative economic philosophy that’s guided Washington since 1980: deregulation at all costs"

That's not the issue here. The issue is the wrongful bailout of AIG.

Obama can exploit the economy, but so far, he's failed. His latest ad was a fizzler.

Perhaps if we threw the kind of money into the government as all these companies have we would get some favor too?

http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2008/09/wall-st...

No wonder they're getting bailed out. These companies have financed so many candidates throughout government and now just expect the favor to be returned. I know there's an awful lot more as to why, but on the surface of it, it just reeks. The top people in all of these companies should be put in prison, but instead they get these over the top "retirement" packages. Maybe, if we're lucky, all this money that the candidates are raising can be spent on financing some of this new debt we're getting into. I wouldn't count on it though.

Right on Don Quijote.

And we still don't know how much this will help overall. AIG has been playing the back-alley CDO (Collateralized Debt Obligation) game hard and on the edge just like the other troubled financial companies. Now we taxpayers own the junk since the CDOs are worth a bag of rocks now.

Any chance that if I lose my job, Uncle Sam will lend me 50 to 60 Gs so that I can cover my bills for a couple a years while I try to get another job?
NO!!!

Then why are we bailing out these assholes?
