And now we learn that John McCain “helped create” the BlackBerry. NO JOKE. (Perhaps he meant the raspberry?..)

If he would have said McCain invented the telegraph, I could kind of believe that.
Suddenly, nuance will matter.
I heard his mom was tight with Elijah Gray. That would make him only a shade removed.
GeorgeSorwell… what nuance? The BlackBerry was created by Research in Motion, a Canadian company.
I think my Blackberry just had a seizure. Sorry about that.
It seems that you could insert any device in place of the Blackberry. To me it sounded like he was using it as an example of the telecommunications advances (that apparently congress and McCain allowed/helped advance). Sure, if you want to interpret it literally, he's saying he invented the Blackberry, but that's not what he was saying. And yes, I know this is in contrast to what everyone said about Al Gore “inventing” the internet. I didn't like it then, I don't like it now, regardless of who it's putting down.
I think what the McCain campaign was trying to get across is that Mac has always been a big supporter of technology, like when he:
Voted against the 1996 Telecommuncation Act or,Tried to gut that law with his 2002 authored Consumer Broadband Deregulation Act (didn't pass and to be fair, McCain proabably didnt really author it, it was a gimme from telecommunications lobbyists that now help run his campaign) Maybe he can convince us with his ongoing opposition to theConnect the Nation Act and the Internet Freedom Act, which are very important in regards to broadband infrastructure and net neutrality, respectively.
So I think its distracting to worry about McCain's support for Canadian Companies.
lurxst, you're right — that's the truly funny part. In his time on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation McCain did much more to throw sand in the eyes of progress than he did to grease the wheels. Him taking credit for anything progressive coming out of that committee is like James Inhofe taking credit for anything progressive coming out of the committee on Environment and Public Works.
ya know? the fact that the whole “hey al gore said he invented the internet” thing is still around is a testament to the rightwing propaganda accomplishments. also the fact that when you say things like i just did, you sound like a conspiracy nut.
except, it's true. gore never said that. and you're another sucker in the machine.
knock it off.
dmf beat me to it. I'm so bloody sick of anyone using that phrase no matter what the context it's frightening. No one can say it without contributing to the heritage of Rove.
incredible that the man can use a blackberry with the injuries to his hands that otherwise keep him off computers. (he was a POW for five years in vitenam, if you hadn't heard.)
if jwest was here, i betcha he could set all of this straight. :p
