I completely agree with you. This speaks directly to McCain's judgment.

I also agree it shows his judgment to be poor–just concerned with short-term political benefits, with little consideration for actual governance.

I'm not saying for a moment that McCain can't win. I'm just continuing to dig into the background of his pick for Vice President and, honestly, the more I see the less I like it and the more troubling it is to me. This speaks not only to McCain's judgment in what is arguably the only major decision he has to make as a candidate but to the nation's stewardship should anything cause him to be unable to fulfill his duties.

McCain could win. Really, it's 50-50. (Or 48-49, with a 3% chance of Nader.)

He doesn't seem to care about anything but winning.

That's just one of the ways he's like George W. Bush.
