The Hard Hitting Hannity – Palin Interview to Come

While we’re still digging out from under the flostsam and jetsam of the ABC interview with Sarah Palin, we continue to be reminded that there will be no “cone of silence” and the Alaska Governor will be doing more interviews. Next up? (And the only one scheduled thus far which I’ve been able to find, even with the Sunday shows coming up tomorrow.) Sean Hannity.

The Sarah Palin media roll-out continues. After doing two days of interviews with ABC’s Charles Gibson this week, the Alaska governor will sit down with Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Tuesday.

Well, an interview is an interview, after all. But just to give us a preview of what we might be able to expect in terms of “fair and balanced” reporting, hard hitting questions, and getting the information out there which voters crave, I thought we might take a quick look at Sean’s unbiased approach to politics. Fortunately for us, my friend Ed Morrissey has been spending some time this week out at the Family Reseach Council’s Values Voter Summit, and guess who stopped by to “energize” the crowd? None other than Mr. Hannity himself. I’ll just share with you a handful of the highlights from the brave journalist who will next fill the void of information on all things Palin, but be sure to click through for the full treat.

[Hannity] brought his sarcasm and humor in an opening attack on Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, James Carville, Paul Begala, and liberals in general that fired up the crowd. He belittled Obama’s pretenses of secular messianism and called him Barack “Apollo” Obama, a reference to the Greek facade of his acceptance speech.

Hannity especially hammered home the point that 130 “present” votes in the state Senate does not show a man willing to accept responsibility even as a legislator, let alone as an executive.

Hannity went on in a similar vein regarding feminists and Obama campaign oppo researchers. The entire speech was by far the biggest stemwinder of the conference, and it fired up the crowd. He derided the snobbery of the media, feminists, and liberals over Palin’s nomination.

Yes indeed… this is the next (and currently only other) interview that Sarah Palin will offer up as the public considers her for the second highest office in the land. Let’s give everyone a chance here, and see if you can peer into your crystal ball. Try to guess some of the insightful, hard hitting questions that Mr. Hannity will be asking during this historic window of opportunity. I’ll try to get you started, but if you come up with any really excellent offerings, we’ll add them in here.

Governor, recently Senator Obama called you a pig… I believe the exact quote was “big fat pig.” What do you think it is that makes him such a big doodyhead? Is it just because he’s a Muslim or do you think there’s something deeper and more sinister going on there?

Democrats are really dumb, aren’t they? But how do you account for the fact that a few people may still vote for Obama before you take office? Do we just have dumb Americans out there?

Governor, during your harrowing trips through the battle zones of Iraq to visit our brave troops, you must have shown incredible courage. Where does that come from? Is it just the historic nature of your tough, independent upbringing on the frontier?

We all know you never requested or took any pork for your state, sold your jet on e-bay and always opposed the Bridge to Nowhere, but that has many viewers wondering… how did somebody as gosh darned pretty as you wind up being so smart, brave and highly qualified all at the same time?

  • When I heard that the next interview would be with Hannity, I thought, "There goes any possibility of a hard or enlightening interview."

A Hannity "interview" will be exactly what the Palin fans are looking for. Unfortunately it won't be journalism in any real sense of the word, neither will it be objective in any real sense of the word. It's hard to see what purpose it will actually serve - except as a continuation of the RNC. Any good that might come of this for the rest of us might be in the form of a larger recognition among the fence sitters of just how "fair and balanced" FOX really is. Btw, I think Charlie Gibson was rather gentle with Palin overall, but then I have this weird expectation that any potential president of the USA should be able to hold his or her own when presented with less than accomodating situations.

I suspect Jazz is right -- Sean will treat her in the manner the other Palin (Marty) suggested -- beat her with soft pillows.
  • casualobserver
Jazz, did you get your inspiration for those questions from Charles Gibson's previous interviews of Obama and Edwards?
  • Ricorun
CO, wouldn't it be nice if there was a "previous" associated with Palin?
  • CO- As far as Charlie's record on Obama, I think we should all remember the debate where ABC jumped the shark and spent far too long and idiotic, meaningless trivia, and not real issues. Like flag pins.
  • D. E.Rodriguez
    Jazz:

I was getting a chuckle out of your proposed questions that Hannity might pose to Palin, until I realized that Hannity's real questions, sadlly, will be very similar--or at least in a very similar vein.

Here's one that Hannity is sure to ask:

Governor, we have all been tremendously impressed by your knowledge of and insight into Russian history, poltics and policy. You mentioned that most of that knowledge came from staring across the straits during the long winter months and catching a glimpse of Russia on a moon-lit night. Now, because of your modesty , I know you have been reluctant to claim this, but let me do it for you. On your way to and from Kuwait you flew over many countries, possibly even including "Africa," and even continents. You must have come to intimately know all those countries, their leaders and their policies during your overflight. Can't wait to see you in Washington applying all that foreign relations and policy experience in support of the Bush Doctrine--one that you also know so well..

Yeah, CO, I think conservatives were loving Gibson a few months ago with his flag lapel, Rev. Wright debate.
  • elrod
I've been thinking about this and I'm not sure the Hannity interview is good for her as she thinks. No, it's not that Hannity is going to ask tough questions. It's how she responds to Hannity's insulting comments about Obama that will say a lot about Sarah Palin.

Recall the radio interview in Alaska where the shock-jock called Palin's rival a "cancer" and a "bitch" and Sarah Palin openly giggled in the microphone.

If Palin comes across endorsing the most low-blow attacks from Sean Hannity, she will open herself up to major criticism.

Palin must be very careful to stand off from Hannity and be willing to distance herself from him.
  • pacatrue
Hey, Elrod, maybe it can be Palin's "Sister Soljah" moment.

Man, I hate that phrase, but such a moment actually could help her. Palin's record actually seems quite complicated ideologically. She seems to be very conservative philosophically, but has a certain pragmatic or libertarian streak when making decisions that makes it difficult to give a simple caricature of her.

Honestly, I think the Hannity interview was intended to balance out the Charlie Gibson one. I don't think OBAMA would ever have to explain the Clinton Doctrine or other tough questions PALIN was bombarded with. There wasn't much of a chance for PALIN to explain herself and some of her alleged baggage. I would appreciate some similar interviews with OBAMA where some of his issues can be brought out and settled through explanation.

I am not a huge Hannity fan. I don't appreciate the namecalling and inuendos he represents along with the relentless talking points he can't let go of. He does give an alternative view that isn't represented through our current media outlets. Being an independent, it is crucial for me to be able to see the whole picture. I don't believe painting OBAMA as a saint all the time and PALIN as an evil person with skeletons in the closet isn't fair and balanced. The Hannities of the media world do have relevant facts that I do check out and appreciate being able to see where that side of politics is coming from.

Last point.....isn't the election between McCain and Obama??? Not Palin and Obama.

I disagree with Spencer....I thought Gibson was too harsh on Palin. Come on here...Who knows what the Bush Doctrine is, let alone agree with it. I doubt Bush even has a clue what his doctrine is. I also noticed Palin wasn't given much of a chance to really explain herself and was cut off too often. I for one wanted to get to know her and give her a chance to really explain herself on current issues involving her and felt the Gibson Interview didn't offer her much of a chance to do that.
