I like Greewald, I differ with him on many issues, but he usually makes some pretty decent arguments despite his left-wing take on things. Rarely do I find him making over-simplfied assertions that he doesn't back up that are all too common. He sometimes leaves out items that go against his views, but that ok, makes the reader have to do his homework to get the full picture in those instances. I find him refreashing in that to challenge him you have to think and expand your own knowledge.
After reading greewald's remarks I was reminded of this bit::
Seems like the Obama Camppaign finds alot to be scared about from portions of the media as well.

Leonidas - Joe's point is that journalists are not doing their job. Whether it's Democrats or Republicans that are getting off easy is immaterial. It seems that todays media is satisfied with "he said, she said" recaps of any newsworthy events. Each side presents it's views and it's left to the viewer or reader to make up their minds. Is there anything called the "truth" anymore?
The US is made up of two fairly equal teams, the Red and the Blue. Reporters just recap what each team does and NEVER calls a foul. The end result is a counrty which only cares about it's team winning - to Hell with the other team. Anything goes now days - lies, hyperbole, illegal vote tampering, unethical tactics etc etc etc. The press used to play the role of umpire, but no longer. Winning is now "the only thing".
Winning yields the spoils - just like ancient warfare. The winning team rewards it's rich business buddies or the unions or teachers if it's the other side. We are mere spectators to the game. The fight between the parties is entertaining for awhile but then it's over and we go home. The actual game participants then enjoys the monetary spoils and the lifestyle. As Cheney once said " we won the election, it's our due".

"The US is made up of two fairly equal teams, the Red and the Blue. "
That's part of the Problem jdledell, America shouldn't be made up of two teams, or three teams, or even five teams. It should be ONE team with differing opinions who honestly and openly debate the issue then come to a decision.
Division like Red vs Blue thinking is part of what's dividing up this country into a Us-vs-Them attitude that is not healthy for the future of the country.
I will agree with you that the news media needs to examine both the Republicans and the Democrats completely and thoroughly as both sides get away with crap when they aren't being watched.
I too hate the talking head shows with the token "liberal" and "conservative" with the "interviewer" just sitting in the middle with one eye on the teleprompter and one eye on the ratings, while who blows the hardest wins. THAT IS NOT NEWS
