Leaving the mischaraterizations about me, from those who should know better --

The McCain-Palin ticket is not "far right" or "ultra-conservative" or anything like it.

And what kind of people would be most upset by that, anyway, even if it were true?

Poor McCain, he's just the pony for the GOP to use to keep the white house this election. They'll push him out for Palin, or someone else, in 2012 that the GOP can really trust.

The GOP has never trusted McCain, just look at what they said about him in the past. DLS, and other right-wingers here never liked McCain until he was the candidate. Now they're just going to use him to ride into the oval office with a ultra-conservative VP riding shotgun.

On Oct. 22, 2006, the Anchorage Daily News asked Palin and the other candidates, “Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?”

Her response: “Yes. I would like to see Alaska’s infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now — while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.”

Palin’s support of the earmark for the bridge was applauded by the late Lew Williams Jr., the retired Ketchikan Daily News publisher who wrote columns on the topic.

Williams wrote on Oct. 29, 2006, that Palin was the only gubernatorial candidate that year who consistently supported the Gravina Island Bridge, the Knik Arm Bridge and improvements to the Parks Highway.

Their speeches were great for the base. Not so much for anyone outside of it. A hardcore ideologue like DLS is incapable of comprehending that he is not in fact representative of the rest of the country.

Biden is perfect where he is: as VP. He is not inspiring enough for the top. I'd vote for a Biden/Obama ticket, but I doubt it would have much appeal.

If Obama loved America, he would have been the one who stayed home, and let Hilliary or Biden take the nomination and put America ahead of his personal jouney of discovery.

Still not too late, all he need do is step down to the Vice Presidency and let Biden take the top spot to make the ticket 10 times stronger than it currently is.

After watching the spectacle last night (I should have gotten the sleep I needed instead) it became clear it didn't matter how much executive experience either Palin or McCain has because all they're going to do is follow in the footsteps of George W. Bush, Karl Rove and Dick Cheney anyway. They profess to love America (a creepy, exclusive sort of America) but what good is their rhetoric about loving the country when all they want to do is attack, attack, attack and continue dividing it? Haven't we had enough of that? If they truly loved America they would have all stayed home.

Great article and interesting points.
It's very interesting to see what impact it will have on the polls.
I use a widget to keep track of the progression of polls. The widget shows the election polls by strength of states.
In addition to other different graphical visualizations of data, this one displays the progression of votes over time.

It gives a great overview and it is updated as the polls come in!

The GOP gave up on consistent reasoning and logical arguments 5 days ago. From here on out it's all going to be talking points that are divorced from reality, massive spin, and ad hominem attacks. I really think it'll make 2004 look civil and high-minded.
