The democratic platform is based around the government helping people by providing assistance, the republican one around the government not getting in the way of people helping themselves. The America I know and love is one where people help themselves and each other, not that of the people being attached to a government umbillical cord. Yes the federal government has some legitimate roles to play in making sure folks have opportunities, but it should also make sure that with this comes responsibilities and consequences for not living up to those responsibilities.

Still, politically, it was a dumb thing to say. Not as bad as Fowler and Spratt (my democratic representative who I voted for the last 4 elections but wont again) laughing about Hurricane Gustav, but still dumb. Additionally your not going to educate folks by insulting them, and there are plenty of GOP whinners as well on other issues.

Now if the GOP could get back to being a party of small government and step away from being the party of government not quite as big as the ones the Democratic Party proposes.
