Look at that, a reuse of Shaun's "What's the sum of two and two?" photograph.

It's common knowledge that endorsements by Bush (and to a lesser degree, by Cheney) are politically risky and when I learned about the changes to the schedule the first night of the convention, I simply chuckled to myself that Hurricane Gustav was simply the excuse for Bush to avoid making a live speech at the convention.

Also an excuse for the GOP to shorten (cheapen) its convention given it was likely not going to be exciting. All eyes were on the Dems' convention (for another Obama speech, in particular); other than because we know now who the VP will be, does (or did) anyone care about appearances at the GOP convention?

What does it say about the Bush presidency and his handling of Katrina, that the GOP seriously considered rescheduling its convention as Gustav neared shore? Or that a decision was made not to have the president or VP speak in Minneapolis? It says that even Republicans consider both of them electoral poison.

The Repubican Party was eventaully going to be made irrelevant due to the changing demographics of the U.S. All the Bush Administration did was sped up the process by twenty to thirty years.

His legacy is that he will probably be the last Republican President, that no one who work in his adminstration will ever to be able to have a career in politics, and that eventually the U.S. will be a one party state.
