The women's vote is a myth!

Senator Clinton and Governor Palin are proof that women can and do diverge on important issues.

Even on whether women should vote!

Most people are totally in the dark about HOW the suffragettes won votes for women, and what life was REALLY like for women before they did.

I too think this is a diservice McCain has done Palin. I don't agree with her ideology, but I think she deserves better. It's like throwing a freshman college quarterback into a pro game. Maybe she can pull it off, but if she can't, then who is to blame? Not so much her I think.

A parting comment : My female friend from Alaska now refers to her as his “Trophy Veep”. I guess that was predictable enough…

Jill – I agree with your premise that Palin actually sets back the cause of women breaking any number of glass ceilings. This choice actually sets up Palin as an ornament on the firmament of McCain. He could have picked any number of very well qualified women, some in politics like Hutchinson, Collins or Snowe. How about a couple of women who have actually broken thru the glass ceiling like Meg Whitman or Carly Fiorina. When McCain/Palin lose she will be dumped into the dustbin of history like Ferraro and it might take another 24 years for a woman to be nominated for high office.

I tweeted that frankly, this is a sad turn for her career. She's now the martyr. What are the headlines about? They are about how she helps his ticket, about McCain in the polls, about McCain getting money. What's that do for Palin? What's that do for Republican women or any woman? It reinforces the woman behind the man. That's not even getting close to breaking the ceiling.

Jill, I think the title of your piece is exactly on target. Palin is standing on the shoulders of women who fought for the rights which made it possible for her to be a player, particularly in state that has been so traditionally male controlled and steeped in male culture. There is no small contradiction, no small irony in her taking positions so contrary to most of those women. This would make for an interesting discussion in itself, but I believe your characterization of Palin (trading the soul for the face) is a very close fit.

Silhouette, your continuing bitter rants against Obama seem to be getting farther and farther away from reality. Just when I thought you might be coming to grips with a more constructive POV, you fling yourself off into that strange world again. I think Hillary would be sympathetic with your struggle, but I'm also pretty sure she would want you to do something more constructive with your opining than engage in second rate Karl Rove imitations.

Here. Let me change the wording a bit and tell me about hypocrisy..

It is as if people just pick and choose which reality they want to live in.

Disregard Obama's checkered past everyone. He's just a superb representative to hold forth the values of black slave descendants struggling for an equal shot. Just ask Jesse Jackson (offscreen) how qualified Obama is.

The only reason I'll vote for Obama is on issues surrounding BigOil and implementing alternatives, especially geothermal. That will be the deciding factor of who gets my vote, not feminist or racial issues. While BigOil is killing our planet, idiots are debating body parts.

Hillary could've defeated BigOil, where Obama's empty suit will blow away in the hurricane of BigOil pressure in DC for him to cave.

But we all know how that story panned out: younger inexperienced male champions older more experienced female ready to kick ass on day one.

Good choice dems!
