I think the Dem strategy is just fine, the Convention pitch perfect, and Obama / Biden a pair of excellent picks. Sil, I was a big supporter and defender of Bill Clinton, and respect Hillary. She would have made a good candidate in some ways, in others not. For example, her negatives are the highest of any candidate, she ran an abysmal campaign that sunk her chances, and she proved not to be either a good manager of her campaign nor a good fundraiser, ending her effort in serious debt while Obama excelled at both managing and fundraising. Further, her unrepentant support of the war weakened her with the Dem base and would put her in the same pathetic place in terms of criticizing McCain's war stance as McCain is in with his rhetoric on "experience" and "Commander in Chief test" having chosen Palin.

And this is not a "magic carpet ride of 'hope'" Sil. Please spare us the GOP talking points. Obama has more solid policy positions than any candidate current or fallen, and has written and spoken eloquently about the problems we face and how to address them. The contrast with the McCain and GOP platforms could not be sharper. This is not about a starry eyed Dem party dreaming. It's a crystal clear choice between the past and all that Cheney/Bush stand for and a clean break with all that. It's a chance to leave behind the economic trickle-down pipedream and unrestrained budget-busting cronyism of Reagan/Bush/Bush that Americans know has enriched the rich and left the rest of us struggling with lower pay, higher prices and an economy in ruins.

And yeah. Sorry to be so blunt, but you do seem like a pessimist and a purveyor of bitterness and sour grapes.

Oh and Palin as a "young, ballsy, appealing and competant (sic) woman?" How about "inexperienced, young former beauty queen with zero name recognition and zero gravitas on the world stage?"

Now, the only correct strategy would be to attack the McCain/Palin alliance as a partnership to further the evil BigOil's empire-expansion project, of which Alaska's pristine wilderness is but an extension of the Iraq BigOil project..

Now, I've said that, no one will listen. They will continue on their magic carpet ride of "hope" that will take them to defeat this Fall.

Mark my words.. I'll still vote for obama/BIDEN, for what difference it will make, I don't have much hope. But you know me, I'm just a pessimist...right?

"Sil is the type of voter this move it about. Trying to sway the Clinton voters on the "woman" thing only... never mind the policies behind the candidates just the gender.

Sil, I know you're smarter than to fall for this smoke screen, just look at the GOP platform and tell me how many of those stands you agree with?"

********

I never said I was going to vote for the McSame/Palin ticket. Any fool can see that the move was BigOil strategic to get into the Alaskan Oil fields...

I just said that it was bad for the obama/BIDEN ticket. Because it is. Palin is a younger person than Obama. She has fought corruption in her state. She is "western", very much so and appeals to that type of mindset, whether or not liberal democrats do is a moot point.

What I've been preaching all along is STRATEGY. Democrats are deaf to that. They are like starstruck children who think the golden fairy of "hope" will deliver them no matter how many minefields they have to walk through, on their own, to get there. Which is always what the GOP banks on and always what causes them to win...or nearly so..

Picking Obama was stupid. Obama not picking Hillary as VP was abysmally inane. In this most trying of elections the Clinton name was needed, not in some empty speech on unity, but in actual presence on our ticket. People who try to act like that isn't so are living in fairy land and are leading our party to its demise this November.

I thought Obama had it hard before. Now with Palen, a young, ballsy, appealing and competant woman on the opposing party ticket, you can kiss people who aren't as gung-ho opposed to BigOil's platform of expanding their empire goodbye. There are a lot of undecided Hillary voters from the West, the Midwest and the working-class states that Palin will undoubtedly appeal to. Women especially. And McSame picking her demonstrates the man knows what he's doing strategically...unlike Obama.

The correct strategic choice for the Obama ticket's VP was Hillary Clinton. As much as Obamabots love to say she was petty, in the end it was actually Obama's pettiness that killed our chances...

The correct strategic choice for the Obama ticket's VP was Hillary Clinton. As much as Obamabots love to say she was petty, in the end it was actually Obama's pettiness that killed our chances…

Looks like there's a bit of a role reversal here. The Repubs have an old white guy and a young VP candidate. The Dems have a young presidential candidate and an old white guy for VP.

All of this talk now about experience and accomplishments. I'm often reminded of this little snippet from Chris Matthews during the primaries:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj4VK9wVAi0

If true, the race is over. Between last night's spectacle and this choice, the wind is taken completely out of Republican sails.

Silhouette, I DO support Obama, and yes, I've had some concerns about his experience, and those dissipated with Biden. I'm fully confident Biden could step into the President's role.

Palin doesn't bring that confidence and given McCain's age, that scenario is very plausible.

Since Palin is solidly anti-choice, she will win solid support from the Xian Right & of course all the women voters who have been "shunned" by Obama.
As reported upstream here, her voluminous 18 months of political life beyond mayorship really fills out her experience resume,..eh, Sil?

Sil is the type of voter this move it about. Trying to sway the Clinton voters on the "woman" thing only... never mind the policies behind the candidates just the gender.

Sil, I know you're smarter than to fall for this smoke screen, just look at the GOP platform and tell me how many of those stands you agree with?

http://www.gopplatform2008.com

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070...
