Which is what I was saying. I'd expect those numbers to be inverted (70% GOP support, 30% dem support), which makes me think folks have the wrong idea about what this amendment would do.

It does defy imagination, and I can't explain it. After browsing a bit concerning the initiative, my only guess would be to point out the dual clauses in the proposed amendment--one to prohibit discrimination, the other to prohibit preferential treatment. Perhaps many are in favor of the first part and not of the second? I'm not sure.

There are some saying the bill's wording is deceptive: http://www.citizensproject.org/PDF's/Amendment%...

But how do you explain that Democrats would be 40 points more likely to oppose affirmative action than Republicans? That defies imagination.

With regard to the Affirmative Action ballot measure in CO:

"An Aug. 13 poll by Rasmussen Reports indicated that 71 percent of Democratic respondents backed Amendment 46 compared with 34 percent of Republican participants."

71%??? A misunderstanding? Perhaps the person quoted in the story is misunderstanding what the bill means. 71% is a pretty high number to begin to start questioning voters intelligence on an issue. The answer: The people in CO don't want it anymore, plain and simple.

Of course the political party that panders to non-whites would support Affirmative Action is all of its non-legal forms. Did they propose a constitutional amendment to make separate and unequal legal or do they just plan on the current mode of ignoring civil rights laws when the conflict with political correctness.
