McCain shows some innovation and activity, for a change. First he aims to poach the vulnerable Clinton voters, and now he may contest prime time with Obama. The media will likely ignore him deliberately (loyal Obama campaign staff that they are).

If the reaction to his announcing a VP on Thursday on this site is a hint, there will be a lot of whining and additional McCain-bashing, so maybe he won't do it, after all.

Could McCain be making the announcement in the hopes of it catching the Democrats off guard? As a way to shield himself from the "Multiple Choice Mitt" commercials that are probably already made?

It would seem to indicate that he is going to go with someone who is going to piss off people in his own party which would indicate it's not going to be Pawtlney.

I agree too- it'll be beyond tacky if McCain announces on Thursday. Personally I hope he makes an effort to commend the historic occasion of Obama's nomination and has the class to not try to upstage it.

"Both political parties have traditionally given each other the courtesy of letting the other one conduct its convention. It hasn’t been done and McCain would get some press coverage but some of it might not be the kind someone who is being touted as someone who can reach across the aisle would want."

Well I totally agree with you. And if McCain does this it will be an example of him crossing the line of common decency and courtesy.

But if McCain does make his announcement this week and the Dems bring it up, the Dems will have to be careful not to appear to be whiny
