Um, given the Democrats history of losing when the election's in the bag (2000, 2004) I doubt anyone will be over-confident. The GOP has the unique ability to make decorated heroes into cowards ( Kerry and Cleland come to mind) and cowards into heroes (George W Bush and Dick Cheney)

He couldn't have done better. He chose the strongest candidate. Addresses (extinguishes?) foreign policy concerns, exploits _the_ hottest political issue in this campaign. Obama's choice is thoroughly sound, puts his campaign back on its feet.

I counsel libs and Dems once again not to be over-confident, given now they have another reason to risk being that way.

Neocon brings up yet another point which I wish I had included in my post I just finished on Biden. Obama's trump card all along has been that he had the good "judgement" to get Iraq right from the beginning and McCain got it wrong. He used it to hammer Clinton in the primary. What does it say about Obama's judgment if he picks a VP with poor judgment? The number of reasons that the GOP is celebrating the announcement of Biden is staggering, and how Obama's supporters are celebrating this decision is a mystery to me.

You can check out my take on it here:
http://themoderatevoice.com/at-tmv/newsweek-blo...

U.S. Senate Roll Call Votes 107th Congress - 2nd Session

Measure Title: A joint resolution to authorize the use of United States Armed Forces against Iraq.

Vote Summary

Question: On the Joint Resolution (H.J.Res. 114 )

Clinton (D-NY), Yea
Biden (D-DE), Yea

I'm sure Clinton is a happy camper tonight. She was pounded into the ground for voting for the war during the primary. Now Obama and his superior judgment selects a Very APT and ably competent VP whose Judgment was that Iraq was a good thing.

Who is this guy from Illinois?

I agree. Biden is very strong. His prior criticism of Obama can be brushed off quite easily: "I know I've been in Washington longer, but I've watched Obama perform on committee with me since early 2007 when the campaign started and I've learned that he is, in fact very well-prepared for the White House."

And his earlier McCain praise is easier to throw back: "I USED to think McCain was a decent guy until he was turned into a Rove-clone. Now he's just a used up old fraud desperate for power."
