In my view (considering the effect on the Obama campaign and its consequent changes in prospects for success in November), Biden was the strongest, followed by Clinton (the utilitarian as well as reverse-sexism appeal: the uncommitted Clinton voters still need to be reckoned with; Obama is likely accepting the risk of defection to McCain because this risk is likely quite low), followed by Kaine. Someone like Sibelius was a fan of the play-pen crowd but wasn't strong at all.

It's the Obama campaign (because Obama is clearly the leader) whose VP choice was the most intriguing and lefty radio here in Detroit has been vigorous in its speculation and opinions about the various choices Obama has had for VP, and will likely be lively next week, not just this weekend, now that the choice has been made. No VP candidate had unanimous support and the discussions so far have been quite interesting. (I wonder given Biden's rep for "remarks" that such talk about McCain will suddenly subside. I don't find either candidate to fail on this account, incidentally. Nor did Obama insofar as Biden is concerned.)

OK, libs and Dems. Go ahead and be ebullient (think "bubbly"), even you, T-Steel, because Obama did do well with his choice, probably the best choice possible: resolves foreign policy concerns (and exploits Iraq), had strong intellectual respect as a presidential candidate, and so on. The Obama campaign is on firm footing.

Now it's up to McCain to choose somebody who will -- hopefully, compensate for McCain's weaknesses. (McCain is effectively on the defensive in this campaign!) Lefty talk radio hasn't addressed McCain's VP choices at all. (It may not matter.)

Well its better than picking Gov Kaine or Evan Bayh- neither added much to the ticket. Kaine is another newbie with no foreign policy experience, and Bayh- is just too bland and forgettable.

I love it!

Joe is right!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbOa989IRYw

As an aside and something Biden apparently advocates.... tt will be interesting to see if we start hearing more about partitioning in Iraq and whether it is before the election, or after. I've long supported this as an option and with Joe's foreign policy credentials, it now has the ability to grow some legs.

It also looks like Biden was right on a brewing Georgia/Russia conflict (back in Nov. of 2007). Seems that he has a great grasp of foreign issues:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDi2boRONs4

Last but not least.. Pakistan (not just on the nuke issue but on Pakistan's stability)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PWZm_puicBQ

I'm done and have a good night!

(Comment after the second update.)

"CNN is now officially reporting Biden has been offered the spot on the ticket. They cannot cite the official sources but the reporter indicates these are ‘very very solid sources’ that have confirmed Biden will be the nominee."

No doubt those "official sources" are ex-Hillaryites who leaked stuff from her campaign to the press and are now working for Obama.... snark, snark, snark, snark.... :)

My money is on Biden (and has been the last few days), but I would have supported Hillary as veep.

I thought Biden would be Obama's pick for Secretary of State or Defense because of his years of expertise.
