Obama's tire inflation remark was deservedly treated with contempt. We don't need anyone reminding us about this (nor do we need an indicator in the cab of our vehicle, which many vehicles have, to tell us this). Conservation is no magic solution to our energy needs. Obama has been a celebrity, and his image and his packaging have been the heart and soul of his campaign. Obama is a liberal Democrat at home with affluent to wealthy white “progressives,” as his experience in Chicago metro demonstrates. All those criticisms of Obama were valid and Obama's tire-pressure remark and later blunders were just that, blunders, which explain some of the rise in support currently for McCain at Obama's expense. The problem with McCain is that he is little other than negative toward Obama, which fails to distinguish and characterize himself sufficiently from Obama, and his latest negative attacks are all duds like Obama's tire pressure blunder. Obama has made mistakes. He has started to recover from them, and continuation of his campaign will eventually lay aside most of his celebrity-status problem. (The more support he gets from a growing number of voters, the more this is effectively laid to rest; he was and is the darling of “progressives” and their pals in the media, but there are many more people who don't view him as mere window dressing, and certainly see him as the means of displacing the GOP from the White House.)

Especially given McCain's feeble and even backfiring attacks on Obama, Obama and the Dems should win big this year unless they threaten to be too liberal. Nobody is going to vote for a frequent Dem Lite like McCain (the new Dole) when the real thing is at hand. Just don't scare away many times more people than those on the far left who were Obama's core faithful from the start. Good luck staying on the tightrope.

Oooh, poor, sensitive, baby Obama. He goes negative first, he plays the race card first, and when the inevitable happens, and he gets it back in kind, well, he and his supports tell us what a mean old man McCain is.

Obama doesn't seem to have the toughness to be President.

You must be watching an entirely different election. McCain has repeatedly mocked and lashed out at Obama for various reasons that have little grounding in reality.

McCain has said that...
1) Obama is a traitor for not having supported the surge
2) Obama will raise middle class taxes (a lie)
3) Obama is an idiot for telling people to inflate their tires (which McCain later said he supported)
4) Obama is an elitist for eating arugula
5) Obama is Paris/Britney

Obama then pokes fun at McCain using a direct quote from McCain, and now the McCain camp is ready to throw every non-substantiated attack on Obama they can.

And how tough is McCain that he can't stand up to the reality that he's lived a pampered life thanks to his wife, without retreating behind the shield of his POW experience?

Obama can take the lowest of low roads and support the Big Three's bailout plan that will be taken to the federal government shortly after Labor Day if the latest news is correct. It will be well received in Detroit, but rejected everywhere else, including the places where the auto industry is thriving in the USA — which is not Detroit. But if it's a quick fix for Michigan votes as well as for the Big Three, well, Obama has that opportunity.

McCain offers nothing positive. What distinction he has is as being self-serving and a Dem Lite. This, combined with objects of lib-Dem attack on the GOP (the old older-male WASP, club-for-the-wealthy, evil corporate interests attack), continues to put him at a disadvantage. He has little choice but to attack Obama and exploit any hints by Obama and the Dems at retardation of this country and retrogression to the dinosaur failed policies of decades ago (another Carter and McGovern; a faith in the old ways of the Big Three and bloated, overpaid UAW).

The biggest thing in the ad to me was the direct charge that Obama gave Rezko political favors due to his political fundraising for him. And yet provided zero evidence of it. Anyone know if there is any evidence? If not, shouldn't this hurt McCain if he's giving charges he can't back up?
