They did after all, spell Mr. Barr's name correctly. For the "mainstream" media nowadays, obsessed as they are with candidates' wives, hair styles, clothing, poll numbers, and other irreleventa, that is an accomplishment on their part. They don't (and probably can't) discuss his policy positions, least of all in a country which is being poisoned by runaway government in both Domestic and Foreign policy.

Maybe some readers, understandably dissatisfied with the dismal alternative offered by the "major" parties, will go to bobbarr2008.com, or lp.org and learn more.

PEACE AND FREEDOM!!
David K.
I noticed that the article is in the Style section. That should give you a pretty good idea of how seriously they are taking his campaign.

Thanks for the link on the Lazurus Long compilation. I hadn't heard of it. I assume this is the "book" they were working on in Time Enough for Love?

We have Ross Perot and Nader to thank for ham-stringing and downgrading a third party choice.

Perot got 20% of the vote in 1992. That's nothing to sneeze at, and would hardly constitute a "downgrade." Nader, like Perot after 1992 and Bob Barr now, is the victim of a concerted effort to ignore his substantive policy ideas and instead make him seem wacky.

We have Ross Perot and Nader to thank for ham-stringing and downgrading a third party choice. Yet there have been third party candidates who have won office-Jesse Ventura for example. Governorship is nothing to sneeze at. We also have to stop with the idolization of the President- that's not what this country was founded upon, but unfortunately it's drifting back to. What would you do if you knew your boss was only going to be around 4-8 years?
They wanted to cal Washington "your Highness"- he wanted none of that.

[...] Jazz Shaw, a Barr supporter, takes warranted umbrage at Copeland’s treatment of Barr: The author continues a long tradition of MSM outlets trying to paint any third party candidate as being non-serious, perhaps comical, or “whacky.” She makes repeated references to Barr’s “rules of the universe” which he will occasionally quote in lighter moments. I’ve now had the chance to speak to the Congressman and his staff on several occasions and I can tell you that Barr is a very serious person, but he does have a lighter side. His universal rules are reminiscent of the collected wisdom of Lazarus Long by Robert Heinlen. (Lazarus dryly noted that “small change can often be found under seat cushions.” Bar observes that, “The most difficult thing about politics is dealing with people with really bad breath.”) [...]
