On Obama’s Compromise With Clinton On Having Her Name Placed In Nomination

Was it a bad omen for Obama, his prospects in the campaign and how he’ll govern if he gets into the Oval Office? The New York Daily News’ Michael Goodwin argues “yes.”

  • When your part of "the family", you have to take one for "the family". That's what happens in political parties.

It's true. Every single democratic vote will be needed this Fall.

The bottom line is that we need a win.

Joe, does EVERYTHING that happens really bode ill for Obama?
  • I think it's actually a coherent strategy for uniting the party, another chance for the Clintons to say "we're important, we're still key players in the Democratic party and we're still in it to win it, for the party" and it gives her a do-over in graciously conceding and throwing her full support behind Obama. Plus, both Clintons are among the best orators to take the stage at the Convention. Sounds like good theater to me.
  • And if her name wasn't on the nomination ballot, the world would announce that Obama is incapable of living up to his conciliatory rhetoric.

    Whatev.

OMG, I'm so surprised that the NY Daily News said that.... (eyeroll) That's such a liberal paper, just like Fox News is liberal cable news.

    /sarcasm

I don't think it matters. I think we can all agree that the Obamas have been extremely generous with Clinton. Of course, how would you like to be the democrat who votes against your own nominee?

I don't think anybody "blinked" as has been reported on the interwebs.
It seems like a sensible thing to do & here's hoping it begins getting Democrats to focus on winning in November.
  • GeorgeSorwell
    Quoting Marc Ambinder:

Nope. The evidence is that no one "blinked," and if you're still looking for a blinker, Clinton blinked and agreed to what Obama had first proposed in June.

A side note: Clinton will campaign for Obama in New Mexico on Sunday.

Like RevDave, I also wonder if everything that happens bodes ill for Obama?
  • If I were Senator Obama, I would approach Senator Clinton about the VP slot on the down low with the promise of giving her AN ISSUE to spearhead (most likely health care). Then announce it with much fanfare at the convention. Forget all the "Clinton baggage stuff" and little misgivings. Heal the party even more.

That'll make the NQ crowd go completely insane.

Not really caring which would-be socialist premier upstages the other, my take is Ms. Clinton wishes a bit of limelight to reignite her prominence and stature to take away the Senate majority leadership position from Harry "the whining weenie" Reid and keep Dick H. Durbin from getting any crazy ideas should his comrade from Illinois ascend.

She can wrap this position up with or without the Messiah esconced at 1600. Why attend funerals in Bangladesh when she can run her own show?
  • What about Barry Soetoro?
