Obama Jet Incident Worse Than Thought

It looks like the incident involving Barack Obama’s jet was worse than originally revealed, or so the media tells us. At the time of the event last month reports from the FAA stated that no emergency was declared but ABC has obtained tapes which would seem to show this was otherwise. According to those tapes an emergency was declared and they requested that emergency equipment be dispatched.

I am no expert (I will willingly defer to any readers who are) but this seems to me to be a bit of overreaction by the media crowd. As I understand it whenever a jet makes some sort of emergency landing it is standard procedure to dispatch emergency equipment even if there is no real danger of fire. Similarly, while declaring an emergency is a significant step it is also fairly standard to do so in a situation like this.

I am not downplaying things and I am very glad things turned out well but I get a little tired of the media trying to make huge stories out of everything

  • I would agree on this being a non-issue. Given the amount of flight time these jets are undergoing, it wouldn't surprise me to hear that one (or both) would experience some mechanical issues.

Is the media now going to debate how unnecessary dispatching emergency equipment is in such a situation? I sincerely hope not.

So the media are all trained emergency response people? Any thing out of order in the air is to be deemed an emergency situation IMO- you're essentially in a big metal tube defying the laws of gravity and hoping that thousands of parts that are supposed to work together, will. Were this a regular commercial flight it would be given it's due.
