The attitude seems to be, "I know you have concerns about me but if I'm elected, I pledge to stay in office for one term. Then you can choose someone you like better, someone you think is more capable."

Besides, we know how McCain is about keeping his pledges.... and in McCain's case it's safe to say that "power corrupts." McCain, like Bush, believes that the power of political office is meant to reward his supporters. There is a reason why oil companies are giving to McCain and McCain has reversed his earlier opposition to offshore drilling. Big Oil now has McCain in their pocket and if McCain is elected, he will owe them.

In four years he'll break his pledge and run for re-election. He won't see it as breaking his pledge, but rather it is his duty to his country to run for re-election as the only candidate with executive experience.

I don't know if McCain is actually considering this or not.

the writer of this piece from Time online has no attribution about this matter, not from mccain, not from any named person. He harks back to something maybe kinda sorta planned for McCain's speech back in Ap 07, but rumored to have been taken out at 'the pleas of his staffers… again no attribution. The rumor appears one from the writer of the piece.

The peanut gallery (Stephanie Miller show, etc.) will quickly rush to say this is “Grampy” just trying to allay public fears about McCain's age and dementia.
