There appear to be about an equal number of Puma types who in the end will find it pretty hard to support McCain.

Those who want to vote for Obama on the GOP side have been swayed by an argument that Obama makes about being moderate, centrist and a deal maker. Yet the facts are the facts in national politics.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are running the show. Not Bush and Not Obama when he gets to the White House. There will be few if any deals unless it is the GOP doing all the surrendering on principals.

Is Barak Obama going to outlaw Abortion, Gay marriage? Is he going to give up on social programs and balance the budget? Stay in Iraq? The point is that those who are EX republicans have little to gain by voting for Obama other then to make statements that they are angry with their party.

I suggest that the GOP fix what ails them rather then run off and vote for Obama. Just as I suggest that the Puma types fix what ails them in their own party rather then run off and vote for McCain. Not because I would not love to see a strong 3rd party in this country but because I do not believe that the reasons both the Gop defectors and the puma types really have anything in common except anger.

Anger is hardly a good platform to build a party.

And don't forget all those Democratic Hillary supporters who are going to vote for McCain (and I say that without the least bit of snark).

Yes, I think there are a good-sized group of Obamicans out there and it's important that they stand up and be recognized. If Obama reaches the WH he will need to make a lot of tough decisions and will need the support of Americans of all stripes and colors. Obama needs to know who elected him (the American people and not just liberals).

Look, every election we hear about the great crossover group. And then they turn out to be no bigger than in normal elections.

The key this year is that the GOP has imploded in terms of party ID. Lots of longtime Republicans are now Independents. A goodly number of them will vote for McCain as McCain is the only Republican these disenchanted voters will support. But lots won't.
