Myanmar Still A Disaster

Despite being ruled by the “glorious and wonderful government” of Than Shwe and his cronies things continue to get worse and worse in Myanmar. According to the United Nations there is still little progress towards fixing the damage caused by Cyclone Nargis earlier this year.

Officially at least 140,000 people died but many believe the true death toll may actually be closer to 500,000. According to the relief agencies by now they should be in the process of rebuilding homes, schools and other facilities but so far very little seems to have been done.

Unfortunately these kinds of stories tend to attract a lot of attention for a few days and then fall under the radar. It is sad to say that there will probably be very little done to help the suffering people of Burma/Myanmar.

just my two cents worth: I'm hoping it would be good to tell that there is actually a huge amount being done by brave souls in Burma from every religious group worldwide, doctors without borders and others. Right now.

The news and stories on Burma are many here at TMV, myself and others here at TMV continue to cover Burma here as well as at our other blogs, and continue to follow the story which was initiiated at TMV during the first massacre and then followed through to the second one nearly a year ago, and ongoing since.

The burmese foundations worldwide, the buddhists organizations worldwide, the human rights orgs and others are doing all they can to make inroads. Than Shwe will not allow more new people in, and that is the logjam, rather than ennui in the press here at TMV, at least.

China and India and the pan-asian coalition countries remain recalcitrant about pressuring Than Shwe to stop acting like a rotting pig in a poke, in part because China would likely like to take over Burma in a heartbeat if they could defeat Than Shwe's army without protracted war with the third faction of armed Buddhist priests as occured, and still fresh in memory, in Tibet.

Than Shwe continues to skim off his cocaine trade, and didnt help the Caron (sic) people and other tribal people because he purposely wants to diminish their numbers, … he wishes their wisest and most revolutionary members dead. Nargis was the perfect murderer for Than Shwe's ill designs.

Buddhists monks who have fled to the Thai border are still speaking daily to BBC and other news radio and print and online, about what happened, and their words and stories can be found on Burma International and any number of online papers that follow/ decry Than Shwe's massacres of the Burmese people, by ommision, attrition, and comission, daily.

Laura Bush continues to speak for Burma, as recently as this week.

Some of the main stream media which have the most dollars, seem to want to perseverate on candidates wanting to chronically slobber on about tire gauges and brittany… that's is atrocious, lazy, shamefully egregious silence on huge controversies and influencial concerns and matters.

Certain editorial leadership re the MSM ignoring difficult stories is not new; its slovenly, morally decayed and crass… and usual.

I may be wrong, but it seems by witness alone, there are so many worthy stories in our world each day that never ever show up on the dim radar that some MSM leadership insists their writers track. I dont believe it's the writers; I think they are stalwart souls. It's the shake-your-money-makers behind the scenes. Some of those seem to often to prefer to mimic other stations, papers, blogsites re the same three stories over and over, than do original research. THe WSJ and a few others still strike out in original investigations and inquiries. I agree with you: Too few MSM do.

Burma is deep in the hearts of many, praying daily, doing what can be done, consistently. Effectiveness to help the people of Burma is unable to be consistant, not because Than Shwe is a jerk, but because he is, in terms of vajra hell, his true home, pure evil.
