Focus on the Family next going to try and get marriage without the eventual goal of children banned, too?

No, because then their constituents would actually have to sacrifice. Discriminating against gays on religious grounds is all about being righteous without any personal cost.

One interesting point overlooked by Joe, in referencing the Gay Marriage issue in other countries, is that after gay marriage is legally approved - by legislatures, rather than backdoor by courts - the energy usually dissipates from the controversy.

(In the interest of full disclosure, I should note that altho I'm not gay, I have been a witness at the marriage of one of my best friends, who happens to be lesbian.)

I suspect that most people don't really mind too much about this, if the legislation affirms that gay marriage also respects the right of religious institutions not to conduct gay marriages if that is their faith. Everyone's rights are respected, and nobody is hurt.

From what I have seen in other countries, most people then shrug . . . wonder what all the fuss was about . . . and get on with their lives.

Just my opinion.

You guys crack me up. Sometimes they even marry the opposite sex to pass for hetero. Sometimes it's a job position that requires it, military service, oh, I don't know, say a political career…
