Campaign finances determine the policies of the next president. Or do they? Likely, yes. Interestingly enough, McCain's bundling mess is merely a blemish on a totally diseased system. Life as Usual in Board Rooms and Back Rooms analyzes sources of donations by industry-interest categories, using data from the Center for Responsive Politics. The conclusion is that the two candidates' reported sources of income are substantially similar, and that the interests groups invest in both candidates for a reason.

While each candidate raises and spends what estimates put at $500 million dollars, for a total of one-billion dollars in spending for the economy, voters imagine they are selecting a person based on values, policies, and positions. However, more likely we are voting a popularity contest among interest groups, who in the end will have influence with whichever candidate wins.

So, follow the money. Both parties likely collect from questionable sources. Both candidates have similar or identical interest groups spending on them. The economy may benefit from the spending, but the voters do not.

Note also that Sargeant is a big oil trader in the Arab world. His connections seemed to be through Arab Americans in his oil trading network.

I have trouble imagining that Sargeant did not funnel this money through these small-time donors. What's interesting is how connected it is to the oil industry.

If it smells rotten, it probably is. Where does a regular joe get 60k to “donate” to a campaign- thats money laundering by Hess to disperse donation funds. Big Oil in John's back pocket.
