Novak Retires, Prognosis Grim

Robert Novak has announced his immediate retirement in light of what his web site calls the ‘grim’ prognosis for his recovery from a brain tumor. Novak has been a political figure in Washington for more than 40 years and his departure does mark the end of an era.

Obviously not everyone agrees with what him all of the time and I myself have often been at odds with his politics and with his generally dark demeanor.

But in times like this I can do nothing but wish him and his family the best in this hard time. I hope to see both the left and the right do the same, but sadly politics often overrides good taste.

Politics is irrelevant here. Our thoughts and prayers go to his family. This is a terrible shock.

My thoughts go with Mr. Novak and his family, too, but I don't think you need to worry about how the right handle themselves Patrick... Sure they get out of line from time to time but I'm sure they'll treat this unfortunate turn of events with respect and decorum.
  • I agree politics should be irrelevant but it is not only the case. When Senator Kennedy became ill the right was generally respectful but we still had some morons make nasty comments (see Michael Savage for example).

This time the sites like Kos are being generally respectful in terms of the writers but many of the readers are being equally stupid

It is sad. I am a democrat but, I feel bad for him and his family. It must be so devastating and it just seems so sad to me.

Man, it's hard to imagine what getting that kind of news out of the blue could do to a man and his family. Sad.

    I wish him well.
