Darned interesting subject Joe. Those of us who have invested (too much) time in various political forums, and who have made the effort to be genuine and civilized when dealing with the troll phenomenon ( and I'll admit, I've snapped once or twice), have a good basic working knowledge of how this works. Trolls don't care about logic, sincerity, or the validity of differing points of view, they are primarily about venting, slamming opposing ideology, and in many cases are in love with the sound of their own keyboards. FWIW, whatever trolling takes place here in TMV is extremely mild in comparison to what I've seen elsewhere, but I suppose most of us know that. I'll say this, I've been addressed in forums in ways I KNOW I'd never be addressed in person. The internet, despite all it's advantages when it comes to opening up new avenues for freedom of speech, also allows opportunites for people with big mouths to hide behind their monitors when they disparage others who they would never speak in the same way to face to face. I guess this is all part of taking the bitter with the sweet when we have a technology that allows so many people to participate in political discourse on what is essentially the honor system.
